sometimes the energy is the message

Listen to the energy of a place and how it decides to greet you.

Back in 2017, I came to Malaysia on a last-minute redirection. The plan had been India, until a friend said, “Don’t go to India. Go to Malaysia. Tour around the country on a motorcycle with my friend.” So I did, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

Years later, I've returned to Malaysia to a very different energy. A motorcycle ride that didn’t happen. Wet roads and postponed plans. A friend who’s still not answering texts. Hours stuck in traffic, again. Nothing catastrophic—just a steady sense of friction. A polite, neutral shrug from the country itself.

Some places you land and it’s one beautiful experience after another, like the place is saying, “We’re happy you’re here.” Other places feel more like: “Thanks for stopping by. Maybe not this time.”

So pay attention to your entry into a place. Notice whether things flow or feel stagnant.

Sometimes the energy is the message.
